GUELPH – Approximately 1:35 p.m. Friday, a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was patrolling in an unmarked cruiser on Victoria Road North when a car sped by in the same direction. The car was captured on radar travelling 94 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was observed to have an odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath. An open can of beer was seen in the driver’s door panel. The driver registered a fail on a roadside breath test and was transported to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 22-year-old Cambridge man is charged with impaired operation, stunt driving, speeding and driving a vehicle with open alcohol. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
