Loaded handgun seized after motorcycle crash in North Dumfries

40-year-old from Toronto faces careless storage of firearm, possession of prohibited weapon, and other charges

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division (HSD) Mississauga Detachment - Cambridge satellite office seized a loaded 9 mm handgun following a motorcycle collision.

On Sunday, June 4, at 7:14 a.m., the OPP received a call of a single motorcycle collision on eastbound Highway 401 approaching Homer Watson Boulevard in North Dumfries Township.

Officers arrived on the scene and located the 40-year-old rider from Toronto. He was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The collision scene was cleared, and as a result of the investigation, a loaded 9mm handgun was located and seized by police. The rider of the motorcycle, identified as Jahmiel Reid, was arrested and held for a bail hearing. He is charged with:

  • Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Breach of firearm regulation - transport firearm or restricted weapons
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of prohibited weapon, device, or ammunition
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
  • Possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with
  • Possess of firearm or ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
