A man has been charged with arson after a fire in an occupied home in Cambridge.
Police said no one was injured in the fire and all occupants of the home got out safely, although the home suffered significant damage.
Waterloo Regional Police said at around midnight Saturday, emergency services responded to the area of Heather Avenue for reports of a house fire.
The fire was extinguished by members of the Cambridge Fire Department, police said in a news release.
As a result of an investigation, a 52-year-old Cambridge male was arrested and charged with:
- Arson - Disregard for Human Life
- Possession of Suspected Fentanyl
The suspect was held for a bail hearing.
The investigation is ongoing by investigators from WRPS’ General Investigations Unit and the Cambridge Fire Department.
The roads in the area remained closed Sunday morning for the investigation.
