Manitoulin OPP allege Cambridge driver impaired behind the wheel

Shortly before midnight on June 20, Manitoulin OPP were conducting general patrol on Highway 17 in Nairn Township when they observed a vehicle parked on the shoulder.

Police approached the vehicle and observed the occupants sleeping inside. It was determined the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

The driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to the OPP detachment for further tests.

As a result of the investigation, police charged a 24-year-old Cambridge man with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was released and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on July 5.

The OPP would like to remind the public that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. If you observe a suspected impaired driver, please call 9-1-1 immediately and report it.
