Oakville youth charged in local vehicle theft

The theft came after an altercation in which the victim was dragged by the car, suffering non-life threatening injuries

Police arrested a youth early this morning in connection to a stolen vehicle investigation in Cambridge.

At around 1:30 a.m. Monday, Waterloo regional police received a report of a vehicle theft in the area of Saginaw Parkway and Townline Road.

Through investigation, it was determined that there had been an altercation in the area. The accused then stole the victim’s vehicle and dragged the victim beside the vehicle for a short distance. The accused then fled the area at a high rate of speed.

The accused then drove a short distance to the area of Cedarbrook Court, lost control and struck a hydro pole. The accused left the scene but later returned to the area where the vehicle was reported stolen and was arrested by police.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.

As a result of the investigation, a male youth from Oakville was charged with the following:

  • Motor vehicle theft
  • Dangerous operation
  • Fail to remain
  • Fail to comply with release order (two counts)

The accused was held for a bail hearing.

The involved individuals are believed to be known to one another.

The investigation is ongoing.
