A 24-year-old driver from Cambridge could be facing a major fine if convicted after they were caught driving without insurance last week by Wellington OPP.
Police say they were monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, Mapleton around 9 a.m. Dec. 21 when an officer stopped the driver of a blue SUV.
As a result of the investigation, the Cambridge driver was charged with Operate Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (C.A.I.A.).
The fine for a first conviction under the act ranges from $5,000 to $25,000.
The defendant is scheduled to appear in a Guelph provincial offences court April 3, 2024.
