Police say a suspect has been arrested in connection with a series of break-ins at local auto shops that continued for more than two months.

Since June, there have been 39 commercial break-and-enters at businesses in Cambridge, Waterloo Regional Police said in a news release.

The ongoing situation had prompted police to issue a warning to auto shop operators to take extra precautions after the targeted break-ins.

In cases identified by police, the premises were entered in the early hours and the thief stole cash.

Police say Adam Taplin, 33, was arrested in Cambridge earlier today.

The charges include:

  • Break and enter and commit (theft) (21 counts)
  • Break and enter with intent (16 counts)
  • Attempt break and enter (2 counts)
  • Possession of break and enter tools
  • Assault peace officer

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
