An Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) camera was installed in front of Elgin Street Public School. Speeders caught on camera will receive a fine in the mail.

Police have issued a warning about a text phishing scam targeting drivers.

In a post on its social media channels, Waterloo regional police urge anyone who receives a text about getting a speeding ticket from an automated speed enforcement camera in a school zone to ignore it and block the number.

The text asks for payment and includes a link that leads to a phishing site that gathers personal banking information. Phishing sites can also download malware on your device to access personal information.

"Do not send tickets or payment reminders via text messages; do not click on the link," warn police.

If you are the owner of a motor vehicle that travels in excess of the speed limit in a school zone where Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) is in use, you will receive an offence notice in the mail.

Two ASE cameras are currently in use in Cambridge, one on Guelph Avenue and one on Elgin Street. Both are within 40km/hr speed limit school zones.

All fines issued from those cameras and any others in Waterloo region are delivered by Canada Post.
