Waterloo Regional Police Service's Break, Enter, and Vehicle Theft Team is issuing a warning to electrical supply companies to take extra precautions after continued targeted commercial break-ins.

Since the end of August, several break-and-enters targeting electrical supplies and wire have occurred at businesses in Cambridge, Kitchener, and Waterloo.

Most recently, on Sept. 26, 2023, at approximately 5:30 a.m., police responded to a break-in at an electrical supply store in the area of St. Leger Street and Victoria Street North in Kitchener.

Unknown suspects gained access to the business by smashing the front door and then loaded a large quantity of electrical supplies into a vehicle.

The vehicle driven by the suspects was last seen heading west on St. Leger Street.

Investigators are encouraging businesses to secure their gates and have good lighting and cameras installed. Placing vehicles near entrances and removing unnecessary hardware may deter the suspects as well.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-570-9777.
