UPDATE: Arrest in stabbing that left woman with serious injuries

Police say they have made an arrest in a stabbing Sunday afternoon in Cambridge that left one person with serious injuries.

"An individual has been arrested and taken into police custody," Waterloo Regional Police said in a Twitter post at around 5:20 p.m. "The investigation is ongoing by our general investigations unit."

Police reported earlier that a woman was transported to hospital with serious injuries following a stabbing in the area of Veterans Way and Ainslie Street South at around 4:45 p.m.

"A female has been transported to hospital with serious injuries due to stab wounds," police said on Twitter.

The public was asked to avoid the area.
