Woolwich man charged in child exploitation investigation

The investigation started when the Memphis Police Department received a report about a 14-year-old being lured online

Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service's Internet Child Exploitation Unit have charged a 45-year-old Woolwich male after completing an investigation. 

In May 2023, the Memphis Police Department received a report about a 13-year-old youth being lured online by an adult male. 

Members of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, Memphis Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations launched a joint investigation. 

On July 19, 2023, the Waterloo Regional Police completed a search warrant at the suspect's residence in Woolwich Township. 

As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with the following offences: 

  • Luring a child (two counts)
  • Making child sexual abuse material 
  • Possessing child sexual abuse material 
  • Invitation to sexual touching 

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
