Would-be thieves target Range Rovers in Cambridge, Waterloo

Similar methods used in attempt to steal high-end vehicles at auto dealership in Waterloo, as well as residential driveway in Cambridge: police

The attempt to steal four Range Rovers from an auto dealership in Waterloo, as well one from a residential driveway in Cambridge, is being investigated by police.

Waterloo Regional Police say that in the overnight hours of Dec. 29, five would-be car thieves tried to drive off with vehicles from a dealership in the area of King Street North in Waterloo.

The suspects caused damage to the rear trunk hatch of four Range Rovers while attempting to gain access to the vehicles’ wiring harness. They attempted to steal the vehicles but were unsuccessful.

During the overnight hours of Jan. 10, a similar incident took place in a residential driveway in Cambridge, police said in a news release.

An unknown suspect caused damage to the rear trunk hatch but was unable to steal drive off in the Range Rover.

Police said the damage caused to all five vehicles is similar to the damage shown in photos from one incident that they have released to the public.

The investigation is ongoing by the WRPS break, enter and vehicle theft team.
