CambridgeToday received the following letter to the editor from Linda Farley in response to this letter regarding the conduct of a city councillor at a recent budget meeting.

Dear Editor

I am writing in response to the letter from Jeff Dunnett titled 'Councillor's decorum during budget process was disrespectful'.

I also watched the Feb 13 budget meeting and council meeting. Everyone seems to ignore the fact Helen Shwery acknowledged the amount of hard work that went into preparing the budget and profusely thanked staff.

Helen cares about her Ward 1 constituents and takes seriously her responsibility as steward of our money. It is council's job to oversee and question the work of city staff and Helen is performing that duty. She truly cares about the taxpayers.

Helen was raised to value the principles of hard work and honesty. These core family values cannot be learned later in life and I expect Helen will always be true and perform her stewardship duties with care. With political experience she will develop more polish but, hopefully, never lose that grit and strong sense of responsibility that she carries.
