Cambridge gymnast Brooklyn Moors advances to individual all-around finals in Tokyo

Cambridge gymnast Brooklyn Moors helped lead the Team Canada women's gymnastics team to a 10th place finish in the qualification round of women’s artistic gymnastics Sunday in Tokyo.

The Canadian squad won't advance to the team finals, but Moors will advance to the individual all-around final after finishing 22nd.

Moors’ scores were 14.133 on vault; 13.000 on uneven bars; 13.300 on balance beam; 13.533 on floor exercise for a total score of 53.966.

Teammate Ellie Black of Halifax, placed 24th to advance with Moors. The July 29 individual finals include the top-24 athletes, with only two athletes per country.

Simone Biles of the USA took the top qualifying spot in the all-around, followed by Rebecca Andrade of Brazil in second, and Sunisa Lee of the USA in third.

Cambridge-born Team Canada rower Carling Zeeman placed second in the women's single sculls quarter-finals Sunday in Tokyo, and will advance to the A/B single sculls semi-final heat on July 29.

Zeeman is affiliated with the Sudbury Rowing Club.
