NEWS RELEASE

REGION OF WATERLOO

***************************

Waterloo Region – Starting Thursday, July 28, children from 6 months to 5 years of age can book an appointment to receive the first of two doses of the Moderna vaccine for COVID-19.

Parents who want to get their children vaccinated are encouraged to contact their family doctor or visit their local pharmacy.

A pediatric dose for children under 5 years of age is half the dose for those 5-11 years of age.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends an eight-week interval between first and second doses.

Any children who have recently tested positive for COVID-19 or are displaying symptoms should wait eight weeks before starting the series of vaccinations. NACI also recommends that the COVID-19 vaccine not be given to children under 5 years of age on the same day as other vaccines.

Also starting July 28, immunocompromised youth aged 12 to 17 will be eligible to schedule their second booster dose (fifth dose) six months after their first booster (fourth dose).

Parents who cannot access the vaccine from their family doctor or local pharmacy can book an appointment for their child at a regional vaccination clinic at 99 Regina Street in Waterloo or 30 Christopher Drive in Cambridge.

Schedule an appointment using the provincial online booking system: covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine.
