In an effort to create transit-oriented spaces within the city and increase transit ridership ahead of stage 2 ION light rail transit (LRT), the City of Cambridge has opened applications for its Transit Oriented Development Grant (TODG) Program.

The TODG encourages active transportation development along the Central Transit Corridor (CTC), as well as other major transit stations in the city.

Property owners located within 800 metres of the future ION LRT route can apply for one-time funding of up to $30,000.

Funding must be used to enhance the property in a way that supports active transportation.

Enhancements can include adding bicycle racks, indoor bike parking, benches, sidewalks, screens displaying transit times etc.

The application deadline is June 1, 2023.

In February, Council approved a new Transit Oriented Development Community Improvement Plan (TOD CIP) to establish the TODG program. The TODG is funded by the Region of Waterloo ($250,000) as part of the Transit Supportive Strategy for Cambridge.
