SEPTEMBER 16, 1933 – JUNE 27, 2022

Ruth was raised and went to school in Bad Reichehall Germany. When she graduated high school she worked as a salesperson “verkuefirin” in Germany. She met Hubert Mayr in Bad Reichenhall and married July 31 1954 in the same town. They immigrated to Canada 1956 via “Arosa Line” from Hamburg to Quebec by boat. Ruth and Hubert became Canadian citizens 12th June 1964 and made many friends and connections in Canada. Ruth worked many different jobs: she was a factory worker in electrical manufacturing welding and assembly, an independent dealer for food products food preparation, paint store sales and service, and retired as the food services manager at University of Waterloo. She leaves cherished memories with her son Martin (Marty), her daughter-in-law Sharon and her grandson Corey.

Ruth enjoyed outdoor activities of all sorts, swimming , boating, skiing, hiking. Loved dogs and pets. Ruth was an amazing cook and fed friends and family often with her baking and cooking. Many days at the cottage ( Lurgan Beach) she would head to her secret spots to pick wild berries which hours later became cake and pie. She also fearlessly tried motorcycles and stick shift driving. She didn’t care what happened as long as it was fun. Ruth always made sure of that.

Ruth was also highly skilled at sewing and most of all knitting where her creations just happened with speed. Her hands were extremely fast and she would amaze all with her knitting without even looking at her work. She could have a full conversation while knitting and the art just came to be. Her grandson Corey was never without home fashioned clothing she made. She also spoiled him her food and he is now a “foodie” emulating many skill he witnessed from his “Oma”.

Ruth was a friend to many and was known for her cooking, humour, spontaneous crazy fun things and no fear of trying basically anything at least once . She was able to maintain a wonderful life even with Alzheimer’s her personality traits of fun and loving of fun always showed up for the best of times possible.

Shortly after Hubert passed she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and fortunately for many years still had a wonderful life and was able to continue to enjoy her hobbies of gardening and knitting and family while in retirement living. Recent years Ruth was a resident at Parkwood Mennonite Home and cared for by the lovely staff at the residence.

Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Alzheimer's Society are greatly appreciated. Share condolences with Ruth's Family at www.barthelfuneralhome.com
