It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel J. Orme on March 17th, 2024, after a brief stay at Lisaard House, surrounded by those who loved him, in his 87th year.

Dan was born in Liverpool, England in 1937 and grew up in Old Kilpatrick, Scotland.

Predeceased by his wife, Grace Orme (nee Cameron) and his sister Agnes (affectionately known as wee Aggie) and is lovingly remembered by his children and their spouses, Daniel, John (Lori), Anne Marie (Steve), Katrina (Claude) and Heather (Jeff), as well as his grandchildren Cameron, Connor, Kayla, Preston, Morgan, Lauren, Skylar and Reagan.

Dan also leaves behind his siblings in Scotland, Tommy (Margaret) Nina (Eddie) and Elizabeth (Arthur) and many nieces and nephews.

Daniel came to Canada from Scotland in 1968 with his wife and children, where he took a job with Babcock and Wilcox before settling into his career as a radiographer. From there he went on to work at Kralinator filters where he worked until retirement.

Dan took the opportunity to retire early so that he and Grace could enjoy life on the water in Seeley’s Bay, where he loved to boat and fish and enjoy the sunshine. In addition to being a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion where he enjoyed playing in the dart league and hanging out with buddies for a pint, Dan also enjoyed dancing, singing and playing the piano and harmonica.

He was full of bad Dad jokes, had a great sense of humour, and was proud of all of his kids. He could tell stories for hours, loved a good party and a decent rum and coke. It would be difficult to find someone in town who didn’t know “Mr. Orme” or a good Danny O story. He will be greatly missed.

His family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the hard working nurses and PSW’s who took care of him at Cambridge Memorial Hospital and to the Lisaard House for providing him with a place to pass with dignity and in peace.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life for both Dan and Grace (d. 2020) will be held on April 6th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 126, 334 Westminster Dr N, Cambridge ON.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for a donation to a charity of your choice, or Lisaard House Hospice https://lisaardandinnisfree.com/support-us/

They never said where, but I think I know

It's miles through the night, just over the dawn

On the road that will take me home”
