It is with heavy hearts that we announce Marty’s passing on Wednesday November 22nd, 2023 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

Marty is once again with his beloved wife, Linda (nee Powles) (2017). Loving Dad to Julann (Darron), very proud Pa to Tristan (Ashley) and Aidan. Dearest brother to Bruce (Sherry), Louise (Randy) and Gary (Billie). He is predeceased by his parents William and Dora Sawdon. Marty will be missed and lovingly remembered by his extended family and friends especially his dear friends, Steve Hibbard and Robert and Val Thomas. Born in Winnipeg, he joined the reserve unit of the Canadian Provost Corp in Camp Petawawa. He joined the regular army in the Canadian Provost Corp and was posted to 2 Provost Platoon in Camp Petawawa. In 1971 he joined the Galt Police Department (Waterloo Regional Police Service) where he had a successful career retiring in 2001 as a Superintendent.

He represented the Ontario Senior Officers on the Board that established the Police Memorial at Queens Park. In 2002 Marty started his new career with the Ministry of the Solicitor General followed by time as the Chief Bylaw Officer for The Region of Waterloo. In 2012 Marty retired from service however, he continued his volunteering commitments with the Warriors Day Parade and was an active member of the Canadian Provost Corps Association. Marty’s passions included the art of cooking, weaving captivating tales, and cherishing moments with his beloved family. Marty, a true friend to everyone, possessed a compassionate spirit and a welcoming smile.

Among his peers and colleagues, he was held in high regard, earning their trust and respect. Marty was a true gentleman who led by example, showcasing a commitment not only to his professional responsibilities but also to the well-being of his colleagues, friends and family. His life was a testament to the values of integrity, kindness, and genuine camaraderie. Marty's memory will forever linger in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday December 1st, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Waterloo Regional Police Association, 1128 Rife Road, Cambridge, ON.
