(July 5th, 1943 - April 9th, 2024)

Wisson, Donald (aka ‘Donnie’ or ‘Wis’), 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born in Woodstock, Ontario on July 5th, 1943, to Elvin & Florence Wisson and raised in Norwich, Ontario, young Don was an avid hockey and baseball player. He played for the local Norwich teams where he quickly became a talented athlete and played ball for decades past his youth.  Don, married to Lynnette for 56 years, began their journey together during high school in Norwich and moved their lives to Hespeler to begin Don’s teaching career.  He spent the majority of his 35 years teaching at Hespeler Public School and finished his teaching career with time at Manchester, Hillcrest and Clemens Mills Public Schools. Don was passionate about teaching his students, doing his best to ensure that every student succeeded and yet, still had fun along the way.

This devoted approach built numerous relationships with generations of students, many of which he maintained until his passing.  Above all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He is survived by his wife, Lynnette (nee Lossing), his son Scott and partner Margie, his eldest son Aaron and wife Maureen (nee Leckey), their children Ainsley and Carter, his sister Nina Fullerton and brother-in-law Jim and their children, Cheryl (Claudia), Debbie and Colleen (Kevin).  Don will also be deeply missed by Lynnette’s siblings Deb (Frank), Barb and Bryce (Susan).  While Don will no longer be around to share stories with us over coffee or tell us more of his corny ‘dad jokes’, the memories of his life will remain with all of us who had the privilege to know him and have him be a part of our lives.

For those of us who were fortunate enough to love and befriend him, he will always be remembered with a kind and genuine smile.  Our family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at Cambridge Memorial Hospital for their selfless efforts.

Visitation will be held at Forward Church, 55 Franklin Blvd, Cambridge, on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 6 pm – 9 pm.  Funeral Service will be held at Forward Church on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 11 am with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service.  Cremation has taken place.   In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Cambridge Memorial Hospital, would be appreciated.
