Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) and In-Car Camera (ICC) systems have now been installed on Waterloo regional police and OPP patrol vehicles.

Waterloo regional police made two arrests Tuesday after their automated licence plate recognition system alerted them to a vehicle associated with a wanted man.

Officers were on proactive patrol in downtown Galt over the noon hour yesterday when the automated licence plate recognition (ALPR) technology in their cruiser flagged a suspicious vehicle.

They conducted a traffic stop at Hespeler Road and Brooklyne Road and arrested the driver, a 36-year-old male, and the passenger, a 27-year-old female, both of whom were wanted by Peel Regional Police.

Officers also located and seized a bulletproof vest.

The accused parties were released into the custody of Peel Regional Police as part of their ongoing investigation.
