Serious injuries reported after vehicle hits pole, catches fire

A 25-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after the car he was driving struck a pole and caught fire on Roseville Road, west of Cambridge last night.

Waterloo regional police were alerted to the accident around 9:15 p.m. last night in the area of Roseville Road and Dumfries Road in Township of North Dumfries.

Through investigation, it was determined that the driver of a Chevrolet sedan was travelling west on Roseville Road, left the roadway, and struck a pole and hydro transformer. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames.

The driverwas transported to an out-of-region hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The road remained closed this morning while hydro crews complete the repairs.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision and charges are expected.
