UPDATE SIU investigating after police-involved shooting in Cambridge

The province's Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a 34-year-old man suffered serious injuries after police were called to a residence in Cambridge early Sunday morning.

The SIU says that around 12:15 a.m. the were called to the report of a disturbance in the area of Sunnyhill Road in Cambridge.

Upon arrival, officers observed a man with an edged weapon. There was an interaction and one Waterloo regional police officer discharged his firearm at the man.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
